Message from President Vinny Whitley.

November 29th, 2010

This is Vinny Whitley, President CWA Local 1150.  It’s Monday, November 29, 2010, at 4 PM.  Sorry for the issues with the tape but you can see we’re back in business.  Hope everybody had a great Thanksgiving.  We have been speaking with Local 1153 in White Plains on the possibility of merging the Locals.  We will be having a membership on Tuesday, December 14th at 5 PM in Piscataway, NJ at 30 Knightsbridge Road.  We can discuss the pros and cons of merging.  AT&T has another window for a surplus/VTP.  That will be on December 15th.  We don’t have any numbers yet but when I do, I will update the tape.

Pardon the interruption

Please be advised we are currently upgrading the locals phone and DSL service. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have cause. You can feel free to reach anyone from the executive board at the listed number under the contacts section. We hope you like the new Website!

Wednesday, September 15, 2010

This is Vinny Whitley, President CWA Local 1150.  It’s Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at 12:30 PM.  SBC, oh I mean the new AT&T, has done it once again.  There is a nationwide surplus of 228 CWA members.  Out of this local the surplus is in GCA 84, Hamilton Square, NJ.  Eleven Communications Technicians and 2 Senior Operations Clerks. Their off payroll date is November 19th.  This office is closing and the work will be going to Maryland.  This means that there will be no Communications Technicians in NYC or the State of NJ.  There is one VTP out of this local and that is in Dix Hill Long Island.   It seems to me that SBC, oh I mean the new AT&T, is abandoning the North East and will not be happy until till all of the work is in Dallas. On another note, George Zagatta is the new NJ Chief Steward.  We wish him luck but he really doesn’t need it.   He has been active in this local for over 20 years as a steward and a former NJ Chief Steward.  Thank you for calling.

RECENT RETIREE BENEFIT INFORMATION

INFORMATION FROM OUR CWA HEALTHCARE REP:

HEALTHCARE:

Currently when anyone retires that is under the age of 65 they will have the option to pay a premium ($13.00 per month for single) and go into the Point of Service plan we used to have prior to our change in April, where there is no deductible and co-pays for in-network coverage. Aetna will be the carrier for retirees, but I urge everyone t pen and read any correspondence that comes from AT&T, as I have no idea what the future holds. We had plenty of retirees get benefits cancelled for non-payment of the premiums when they didn't look at enrollment or open the bills.
